Seven Bold Home Décor Ideas 2020!
- 1 January, 2020
In our previous post, we touched on designing living spaces in Accra . This week Jumia House shares some tips with you on how to make your kitchen more functional while maximizing space.
A kitchen goes beyond the stereotype of just being a cooking area. It involves a great deal of organization, a room that should ooze the aura that captivates the minds of visitors to your house.
According to the General Manager of Rouge Interiors, Amma Anno-Bempong, you always need to establish a ‘triangle’ when it comes to kitchens. These are the cooking area, the wet area and the storage area.
Once this ‘triangle’ is established in the kitchen, it is makes it easier to work around and the kitchen is more functional this way.
It is also useful to determine the actual size of the family and the particular purpose of the kitchen, in planning the size of the kitchen.
In Ghana for instance, it is quite common to find homes with two kitchens lately, one as an outdoor kitchen for more menial kitchen work and the other as an indoor kitchen for other basic kitchen work. Some on the other hand prefer their kitchens to be fully functional but still be a ‘show kitchen’.
Rest assured that you will find the best quality materials from Rouge Interiors to match and make your kitchen into that delightful play area, whether for functionality or for show or a good blend of both!!
Here are some additional tips to help manage kitchen space:
Use the walls!
A great way to free more work-space from the counters is using the walls. With the use of hooks and shelves, some of your kitchen tools can be stored on the walls, pot racks could also hold pots perfectly on the walls and allow space to store bigger items from the counter space to the cabinets.
Slide that door!
Have you ever considered sliding doors rather than push-in or pullouts? Well this may be another great way to space-save in your kitchen. Sliding doors allow more space and storage behind doors.
Instead of using pullout kitchen cabinet doors, sliding cabinet doors can also be a good way to avoid little accidents caused by leaving the cabinet doors open.
Invest in a roll around kitchen counter as this is mobile and convenient to work with. Just roll it out when you need extra counter space and roll it back to the corner or storage room when it’s all done.
Apart from that rolling cart, a mini roll-out drawer within your drawer could be an amazing way to store those extra little kitchen tools.
Create an extra shelf or store a step up stool in a toe-kick roll drawer, to help space-save. Just keep rolling!
If you love kitchen islands, it is typically clever to opt for one with space underneath as it could be used to store stools. For small kitchens or space-saving ones, this island can provide an extra work counter while allowing a miniature dining table.
Perception to most is reality. A clever kitchen is one which seems to have maximum efficiency and minimal clutter, hence, the formation of space always gives the impression of a spacious kitchen. Parallel-facing counters always allow for space in between, helping to create the illusion of a spacious kitchen.
Also, always allow sunlight into the kitchen to create the illusion of an outdoor feel and hence more perception of space. You can also opt for pint-sized appliances for your small kitchen to create the illusion of space while ensuring functionality, that’s if you don’t cook for a lot of people.
For minimal clutter, maximum efficiency, and the best way to create the illusion of space is to always keep your kitchen clean and extra items left–out items stored away.
