Entrance to Ho Technical University

The Ho Technical University (formerly Ho Polytechnic) is one of 6 polytechnics upgraded by the Government of Ghana into full fledged universities sometime in September 2016. The conversion was mandated by a technical committee on the conversion of polytechnics to technical universities in Ghana. The University is located in Ho, the regional capital of the Volta Region.

The Polytechnic (now Technical University) was first established as far back as 1968 as a technical institute. Its core aim was to provide pre-technical education. The institute has since grown from its early pre-tech beginnings, through its tertiary courses in the Engineering and Vocational fields, degree and now masters courses in several engineering disciplines.

Below is a general guide to the Ho Technical University to help current and prospective students with information on the institution.

Approved Halls and Hostels at Ho Technical University

As Ghana’s leading real estate marketplace, it is only natural that we provide information on housing and accommodation at the Ho Technical University. The University offers two official halls of residence – the Adaklu  Hall (formerly GETFund Hostel) and the Acolatse-Vodzi Hall (formerly Central Hall) and several independently owned hostels close to the university. Some of the private hostels at Ho Technical University (in no particular order) are:

  1. Defiat Hostel
  2. Royal Hostel
  3. Bob Coffie Hostel
  4. Amen Hostel
  5. Kekeli Hostel
  6. Brooklyn Hostel
  7. Freedom Hostel
  8. Sunrise Hostel
  9. White House Hostel
  10. Nutefe Hostel

General rules governing students’ stay in these hostels (especially the halls) is detailed on the official University website. You can see other approved private halls and hostels of the Ho Technical University on the institutions old website here. Alternatively, students can also rent affordable houses close by, especially houses located in the Mawuli Estates. Our advice if you decide to rent is to split the bill with another colleague.

While the University’s housing safety tips are laudable, it isn’t as comprehensive as this guide on staying safe and smart during a house search or this one on how to spot and avoid property scams which are useful to students house hunting presently and in the future.

If you’re a real estate agent in Ho or own property in the city – be it houses, hostels, shops etc. for sale or rent – don’t hesitate to list on meQasa.com,
