The Ho Technical University (formerly Ho Polytechnic) is one of 6 polytechnics upgraded by the Government of Ghana into full fledged universities sometime in September 2016. The conversion was mandated by a technical committee on the conversion of polytechnics to technical universities in Ghana. The University is located in Ho, the regional capital of the Volta Region.
The Polytechnic (now Technical University) was first established as far back as 1968 as a technical institute. Its core aim was to provide pre-technical education. The institute has since grown from its early pre-tech beginnings, through its tertiary courses in the Engineering and Vocational fields, degree and now masters courses in several engineering disciplines.

Entry cut-off points for the Ho Technical University seem to announced on an as-needed basis. From what we gather, cut-off points are only used when there are numerous applications to specific programmes at the University. This means there is no established entry standard into the Ho Technical University. Instead, the Ho Technical University uses general entry requirements especially for each program it offers. The university is made up of the following school/faculties:
The School of Graduate Studies trains graduates to develop specialized skills in the Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering disciplines. The Ho Technical University’s School of Graduate Studies operates two Master of Technology programmes in Agricultural Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The programmes are run together with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on a sandwich basis on the HTU campus.
This faculty was established in 1993 to generate highly skilled professionals and entrepreneurs in varied disciplines within the Applied Sciences and Technology. Some of the courses offered in this faculty are Computer Science, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Agro Enterprise Development and Food & Science Technology among others.
The faculty produces skilled entrepreneurs within the fashion and industrial art disciplines. Course offered in this faculty include HND Fashion and Design, HND Industrial Art (lasting 3 years) and an Advanced Fashion Certificate.
This faculty moulds students into future business and management experts. This is the largest Faculty in the University in terms of enrollment. The Faculty is made up of these departments; Department of Accounting & Finance; Department of Logistics & Supply Chain Management; Department of Management Studies; and the Department of Marketing.
This faculty is tasked with harnessing building the next generation of specialized engineers and technicians. The faculty runs a number of courses that range from masters, bachelors and diploma programmes through its five departments (Department of Agricultural Engineering, Department of Building and Technology, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering).
This a much newer faculty created to support the other faculties through the humanities. Courses offered include Communication Skills, English Language, French Language, Chinese Language, Entrepreneurship, Economics, Law and Research Methodology.

The University offers two official halls of residence – the Adaklu Hall (formerly GETFund Hostel) and the Acolatse-Vodzi Hall (formerly Central Hall) and several independently owned hostels close to the university. Alternatively, students can also rent affordable houses close by, especially houses located in the Mawuli Estates. Our advice if you decide to rent is to split the bill with another colleague.

ALL STUDENTS are to pay at least 70 percent of the fees for the academic year to be eligible for academic registration for the 2017/2018 academic year. For students who are unable to pay their fees upfront, the unviersity also offers student loans they can take advantage of. Secondly, it is bordered by Mawuli Estate to the East, the SSNIT Flats to the South and the Adaklu mountain to the South East. Nearby landmarks include the Mawuli Senior High School and Hope FM. Lastly, the Ho Technical University is an 8 minutes drive away from the DVLA office when you enter the city from Sokode.
