Great Tips to Make your Home Staycation Friendly

Our homes are our comfort zone and there are numerous ways we can turn them into a staycation, that honeymoon destination  or the vacation spot we can’t take off our minds.

While it may seem more fanciful to fly to some exotic island right now, it is possible to channel some of the vacation vibes at home. A little tweak here and there will do wonders to how you perceive your home.

The best part is you get to save money and still get the vacation vibe! Since you’ll, essentially, be staying at home and feeling a vacation vibe, we can call that a staycation!

Whatever your reason for wanting the resort-like atmosphere, making your house feel like paradise can give you a reason to relax after a long day. We have compiled a list of what to do in order to achieve that resort-like staycation below.

MIMIC YOUR FAVOURITE VACATION SPOT

Add elements that remind you of your favourite spot. The serene environment, the scents, the view, the bold colours, the three-course meals, etc. What truly matters is what stands out for you and reminds you of your favourite retreat.

Do you enjoy a night swim in the pool with a cocktail on vacation? And have a pool at home? You can recreate the vacation experience by setting your pool at home up with that beautiful umbrella and the cocktail stand whilst enjoying your night swim. Your ideal vacation can be done at home.

Not the swimming type? Could it be the painting on the wall, the furniture or the artefacts that stand out for you? Visit malls in Ghana or local arts and crafts markets to find what you need and if that visit does not do the work, get in touch with a local carpenter, painter or expert in arts and crafts, you might be surprised as to what they can do with your idea.

TRICK OUT THE BEDROOM

It is indeed hard to beat that rejuvenating feeling when you wake up well rested. Sleep somehow seems to come naturally on vacations. Could it be the bedroom or the mere fact that our bodies naturally adapt to rest since we are on vacation?

Whatever your answer may be, tricking out your bedroom by switching to normal deluxe sheets, warm lights, fluffy rugs, marble decorative pillows and even a wireless speaker or two to recreate the surround-sound effect you’d get in your hotel or cabin can simply do justice.

Another good news is that, it is your bedroom, your ideas should follow freely. Add up colours you like and get the settings you desire.

GIVE THE EYE A PLACE TO REST

Resting the eye on greenery or a thing of nature is a great way to get the resort-like vibe started. It is established that not every home has the multimillion view from the balcony or whatever space there is.

However, to achieve that resort-like decor, adding a fountain, tall trees will make the eye travel upwards. The sight of the palm trees with the blue sky background creates a resort-like view. Besides, trees and ornamental shrubs can be found in most resorts or vacation destinations.

ADD SOME OVERSIZED WALL ARTS

As mentioned above, furniture, artefacts and paintings can easily be found at the mall. Local professionals like carpenters, arts and crafts people and such can equally reproduce a work of art or create such a piece of work just by your description of what the outcome should look like.

Ghana produces quite a great number of crafts, paintings and contemporary arts you can find all over the country, but more specifically in the Northern, Eastern and the Greater Accra regions. For convenience, there are some local Ghanaian craftsmen selling their goods on Novica. All you need to do is visit the site and shop for your home.

BRING THE OUTDOORS IN

Introduce some pieces of outdoor furniture and natural fibres indoors: A woven hammock or a bamboo bed is a suggestion.

Bear in mind the more comfortable the hammock or furniture is, the harder it will be to get anything done, since they can get so comfy you won’t want to leave. However, it doesn’t hurt to be lazy for a while.

TURN THE BATHROOM INTO A SPA TREATMENT

Whatever your budget allows, adding some elements of spa-treatments to your bathroom is a must. The low flow of water from that generic shower can be traded for the rain shower head.

Equally, throw in some scented candles, bamboo mats and some new sets of soft towels. Don’t forget to treat yourself to some bathrobes.

Just in case the design of your home makes it impossible to adjust and bring the resort-like decor alive, there are quite a number of houses for sale in Ghana with beautiful settings which make it easy to inculcate any design you prefer. Let us know what you think about having a resort-like decor at home.
