Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the idea of working from home has been embraced by more and more people to create a more flexible schedule. One who is not familiar with technology and the use of apps may wonder how productivity is achieved in such a set up.

Between the extra time you can spend with your family and the comfort of dressing down to work, the reality of working from home can be quite different. Nevertheless, mustering the energy to embrace tech might feel daunting but it is rewarding.

ZOOM APP

Zoom provides basic video and audio chatting with up to 100 members with a 40 minute time restriction. The option to subscribe to a paid package (Pro package) provides unlimited meetings without having to worry about the time restriction the free package comes with.

This app has been used to bring people together, both for business and personal purposes, all that is required is downloading the app. Depending on your needs, you can use the free service or pay for the premium service to host more people for longer periods. It runs on the mainstream types of conventional communications devices: smartphones and computers with the capacity to meet security and SSL requirements.

Zoom also enables organisations and individuals to create fun, a virtual space for webinars, host fireside chats and conduct interviews among other possibilities.

TRELLO

Trello keeps track of what is on the ‘to do list’. In a sneak peek it tells you what is being done, by whom and when. Imagine a team working on a project named ‘houses for sale in Ghana’, this will enable every member on that team to follow the progress of the project. Also, as progress is tracked, the board can be carried along anywhere and a comment section is provided for team members to provide feedback and commentary.

15FIVE

This software app built on questions is aligned to positive psychology, reviewing the performance of employees and igniting innovation to save time, money and resources.  Employees receive a 15-minute survey to answer a set of questions concerning personal productivity and morals in order to stay on top of what is important. Here, 15Five is direct with taking conversations to where they should be in order to improve the working life of employees.

Unlike other softwares or apps that provide a free basic package, 15Five does not have a free version. Regardless, it is a solution to combine education, software and unlock peak employee performance.

15Five is easy to use with no training and enables organisations to measure progress and assess the needs of the employees regardless of whether they are spread across different cities around the world. Many companies benefiting from 15five include banking institutions in Ghana, real estate in Ghana companies and computer software companies. 15Five allows agents all over to be reached out to and monitored with just a single click.

SPARK

Spark is an email application which automatically sorts and classifies emails into prioritised categories. Simply put, the app allows important emails stay on top to give room for the ones worth the attention whilst keeping the clutter aside.

Working from home usually comes with a ton of messages which may not all be of importance, urgency or priority. Emails sent from internally i.e communication amongst members of the same organisation or emails from saved contacts will appear on top regardless of the time they were sent as compared to emails sent from unfamiliar contacts. Additionally, there is the snooze feature available for turning off email notifications. This is especially useful after work hours.

Even though most businesses are slowly, but quickly moving back and adjusting full time to working at their offices, these apps have become a big part of the working community and have created a lot of helpful dynamics which have come to stay. Thus, the need to familiarise oneself is very worthwhile. Let us know if there are some other useful apps to enhance productivity when working from home in the comments section.
