Last month, Jumia House turned two! Today, we take a look back at some of the key trends that have marked our first two years in operation.

Over the past two years, Jumia House has grown to offer more than 800,000 property listings in 34 countries around the world. As well as Ghana, our reach now stretches from Mexico to Morocco, and from Saudi Arabia to Senegal.

One of the biggest trends we have seen since our launch in October 2013 is more and more people globally using mobile devices to look for properties to buy or rent.

In fact, the share of mobile visits to Jumia House’s network of websites grew by an average of 32.17 percent globally between 2014 and 2015.

In Asia, the trend is even more pronounced. The region saw the biggest growth in share of website visits from mobile devices, with an increase of 45.56 percent over the year.

What’s more, our users have shown a clear preference for what type of mobile device they use, with Android phones becoming increasingly popular with visitors to our websites.

Over the past 12 months, the use of Android devices in our Asian markets – the Philippines, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Indonesia – has nearly doubled. We’ve seen Windows phones become less popular in these regions, though they still account for about half of all our mobile users in Asia.

In Latin America and Africa, Android is also the most popular operating system, witnessing growth of 63.09 percent and 53.27 percent, respectively, from 2014 to 2015. Globally, 80 percent of Jumia House app users are now using our apps on Android devices.

Data from Jumia House’s Ghana-based branch reveals that app traffic in Ghana is almost as high as website traffic. The country is now embracing mobile because of lower device prices, cheaper SIM cards and affordable data packages.

Locally, Jumia House Ghana launched in November, 2013. Since then, we have grown to offer more than 8,000 property listings.

We’ve spent the past two years continuously improving our product to make sure we always have the very best property listings on offer. We redesigned our website last year, launched our first Android and iOS apps and released high-quality market research to keep you up-to-date with the latest trends in real estate in Ghana.
We couldn’t be more excited to see what else the future has in store. Here’s to many more birthdays to come!
