The President of Ghana, during his latest address to the nation on 16th August 2020, hinted that the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra is set to re-open on the 1st of September 2020. The KIA has been closed to international traffic since 22nd March 2020.
Ghana has managed to contain the coronavirus and currently has some of the lowest mortality rates from COVID-19 in Africa and globally. As of 24th August 2020, Ghana has recorded 43,622 cases, 41,695 recoveries and 263 deaths. In a populace of over 30 million, that is commendable.

The Ghana Health Service(GHS) has outlined some important guidelines to the KIA in preparation for the reopening of the airport on 1 September, 2020.
Below are the measures the GHS has ordered KIA to put in place:
The president has assured that all passengers will be tested before being allowed to exit the airport.
Ghana has proven effective in containing the coronavirus and its spread and, as such, the government believes that the country is ready to open up its borders. This might be the new normal until we successfully eradicate the coronavirus from the world.
