- 1 January, 2020
Finding a home in the right neighborhood can be difficult. Fortunately, Ghana’s premier real estate portal, Jumia House, has offered thousands of house-hunters the convenience of finding the right home from the comfort of their armchairs. As a new resident, knowing about your neighborhood can help you adapt and settle quickly. Jumia House Ghana presents Mataheko as part of its Accra Neighborhood Watch series this week.
Mataheko is a relative small community located about 16 minutes away from Accra, the Central Business District. It has a good road infrastructure, connecting to other areas such as Dansoman, Kaneshie, Abossey Okai and Laterbiokorshie. Road maintenance is carried out in the neighbourhood on a regular basis.
A number of celebrated personalities live in Mataheko, such as Solomon Sampah and George Williams, two of Ghana’s most acclaimed veteran actors.
Mataheko is made up mainly of houses, with a fair number of apartments in the neighborhood as middle-income earners prefer to live in these units. A large number of these houses are ‘compound houses’, with prices set at rates deemed affordable by those in the lower middle income bracket. For those looking for ‘self-contained’ houses, there are a number of these for sale or rent in Mataheko. From storeys to bungalows, Mataheko has quite a number of such residential units to help satisfy the individual demand.
Commerce is very important in the heart of Mataheko. The biggest form of retail is food, with a number of local restaurants in the region. Another leading form of commerce is retail trading. The neighborhood has vendors on almost every corner, selling items such as stationery and snacks. A number of office spaces are also available for those involved in the service sector.
For workers and students looking to commute to and from Mataheko, having your own car can be a major advantage. For most Ghanaians however, public transportation is their means of transportation. Mataheko is conveniently located near the commercial hub of Kaneshie, which has two bus terminals driving commuters within and outside Accra.
Mataheko has a number of hangouts that residents can enjoy, including Movinpik Pub, Movindo Sports Bar and Homies. KFC is also conveniently located near Mataheko, with an estimated 16 minutes drive from the neighborhood. The entertainment centers are great spots for people looking to catch up on live soccer matches, while the eateries form great places for families to spend their weekends together.
There are not that many schools in Mataheko but you can find a French school, Kaneshie Secondary School and Accra Academy located within the community. A number of high-profile elementary schools can also be found in Dansoman, which is about 15 minutes away, such as St. Martin de Porres.
Security in Ghana is one of the best in Africa and Mataheko equally benefits from this. The Kaneshie Police Station, which is about a ten minute drive away from Mataheko is enough of a deterrent for thieves and burglars.
Mataheko is indeed a convenient neighborhood to live and is the perfect place for families, looking to settle down. Is Mataheko your perfect destination?
