Time Management Tips for Real Estate Agents

Real estate agents, like all other professionals, need adequate time management to get the best out of themselves.

The life of a real estate agent/broker is one full of hectic schedules. The endless calls from clients and house-hunters, visits to properties, marketing strategies, etcetera, are a few of the hustles such individuals are likely to go through. Unfortunately, time waits for no man and as such, there is the need to plan effectively in order to get the best out of your day. With that in mind, Meqasa presents you with some time management tips to help you achieve your set targets.

Have a Weekly Plan

It is important to note down your tasks for the week in advance. This serves as a guide in aligning your daily tasks with your weekly plans. Planning for the week is not, necessarily, the solution to managing your tasks but more of a time-saving technique in order to train your focus on your individual tasks. A great tool to use is the calendar app in your email.

Draw Up a Daily Schedule

The most crucial aspect of time management, daily schedules serve to increase productivity and to ensure that no task is lost from your agenda. Make sure you have a diary and note down all tasks to be completed for the day. It also helps to have an organiser and calendar synced to your smartphone in order to prompt you of your tasks.

Prioritisation is Key

Some tasks are more crucial than others and it is more prudent to have such tasks atop your schedule. Remember that seeing to a house-hunter is more important than restocking your fridge for example.

Group Tasks According to Similarities

It helps to have tasks similar in nature batched together. This will ensure consistency and a seamless transition from one task to the other. In that way, you are assured of completing tasks in a timely manner.

Set Reminders

In view of the fact that you probably would have only eight hours in the day, it helps to have reminders in place to prompt you of your next task. Having alerts on your smartphone is an ideal way to start and ensure that you get your tasks completed in a timely manner.

Set Time Limits

With a daily schedule set, ensure you have assigned time limits to each task. Each assignment is peculiar and some may warrant more time than others. For those that seem lengthy, set realistic time limits against them, same applies to those that are simpler but have shorter time limits. However, for such simpler tasks, assign fewer minutes to correspond with the simplicity.

Track time spent

It definitely helps to track the time spent on each task. This way you will be able to improve on your productivity for subsequent tasks. You can search for online time management tools to assist you in this endeavour.

Do Self-Assessment

At the end of each day, make an honest assessment of your achievements. Were you able to take that house-hunter around town to see the houses out there? Or did you manage to secure that meeting with the landlord in your quest to secure his new property? If not, assess why you could not and devise new strategies to help you meet such objectives. Alternatively, you can scale down on the number of tasks each day, eliminating those that can be postponed.
