It is no doubt that gardens are very important for every home and for that matter other properties in the country. Their usefulness differ: gardens beautify the home, a number of Ghanaians plant food crops in their homes and that save them money. Keeping gardens prevent also the soil from eroding and as compared to concrete slabs, they prevent flooding.
“Plants provide human beings with oxygen and they beautify the environment that is why we need to cultivate gardens,” says the Chief Executive Officer of Strategic Communications Africa Limited (Stratcom), Ms. Esther Cobbah.
To stimulate the interest of property owners to grow more flowers and other crops in their gardens, Strategic Communications Africa Limited has launched the third Garden and Flower Fair at the Department of Parks and Gardens in Accra. The fair which is slated for the 10th – 14th of September 2014 will come off at the Efua Sutherland Park on the theme, “The World is your Garden.”
The show will be marked with an exhibition, workshops, farmers markets for those interested in getting seedlings and fresh products, conferences, jazz nights and many more.
According to the Minister of Science, Technology, Communications and Innovations – Mahama Ayariga who launched the event, the garden show is a laudable idea and the ministry, ““Our overall national environment improves as we each brighten our little corner, as we plant gardens and flowers around us to beautify our surroundings, as we take all the needed steps to make our environment healthy and safe,” he said
The Garden and Flower Show is part of the Garden and Flower Show Movement designed to create awareness on the benefits of urban beautification and gardening. The maiden edition took place at the Efua Sutherland Park in August 2013.
