The bedroom is a sanctuary for most homeowners, which means a lot of time and money is spent to keep this place as tidy and comfortable as possible. Here are some simple DIYs that will keep your room clean, fresh and bacteria-free.
Open the windows to allow in some fresh air and prevent the room from getting stuffy. Proper ventilation removes toxins from the room and replaces it with fresher air. Opening the windows for more air allows a homeowner to save energy as well.
House plants do not only beautify the room but they extract carbon dioxide from the air and replace it with oxygen. Potted plants like flamingo lilies and variegated snake plants also keep the atmosphere smelling fresh. These plants take away toxins also.
There could be dust and dirt hiding under certain areas which need special care. Under the bed and furniture are the best hiding places for dirt, even when other parts of the bedroom are tidy. Remember to pay attention to the upholstery and the pillows especially after sweeping the room. Dust may have settled on them.
Statistics show that after two years, a third of a pillow’s weight contains dead skin, bugs and droppings which cause allergic reactions like asthma and acne in people. That is why it is important to replace pillows after a year of using them. Bed sheets, duvets, cover cloth and pillow cases should be washed at least twice a month.
Mattresses and blankets get damp from sweat especially during the warm dry season. Take off the sheets and the blankets and shake off the dust. Raise the mattress and dry them while you are away from the house. Doing this regularly will prevent bugs and other insects from breeding in the mattress.
To prevent dust from settling on the bed, keep them away from the window. In smaller apartments, where moving beds around may become a problem, keep the bed away from other equipment which is likely to produce chemicals or heat. This will increase the lifespan of the bed.
The tips listed above will not only keep your house tidy but will make individuals living in the home healthy and happy.
