Regular Home Maintenance To Avoid Hefty Costs

Prevention is better than cure, as the adage goes, and this holds especially true when it comes to maintenance for homeowners. By keeping up with maintenance on a regular basis, for example, homeowners will be able to spot and remedy minor problems before they multiply and become major headaches requiring budget-breaking fixes.

Maintenance of property is not a thing to procrastinate about, as it could be the number one reason for which the value of your home reduces and you do not get your asking price when you want to rent or sell it out. Sticking to a proper maintenance and improvement plan will also ensure that the property always looks its best and is ready for sale should you need to sell quickly.

Here are some ways to maintain your home in a cost-effective manner:

    1. Regularly Check The Plumbing

Regularly check the plumbing and irrigation and irrigation systems for blockages and leaks. This is not limited to the interior of the house, but also, regularly check the pipes leading to your sewage system. Old and poorly maintained pipes could get clogged with silt, especially if the construction is really old. Repairing one that has gotten to this point will cost a lot more as it might entail digging a whole new septic space for your sewage along with all the other attending costs. Small faults can often be repaired quickly and easily, but a major overhaul will probably need an expensive expert.

    1. Check the Roof Regularly for Damaged Waterproofing and Any Leaks

Check the roof regularly for damaged waterproofing and any leaks. A leak quickly mended could save you from having to repair or replace ceilings. Get rid of mould on walls and other parts of the house and repaint walls frequently.

    1. Repaint

Perform repainting jobs in a more cost-effective way. Ideally, a house should be painted once a year, you can save cost by painting the interior one year, and the exterior along with the doors, windows and frames the following year. This way, you don’t feel like you have parted with a huge chunk of money at once.

    1. Regularly Dust and Clean

Regularly dust and clean fitted carpets to ensure they always look their best. Carpets can trap dirt and cause disease if left uncleaned for extended periods of time. Not to mention pests will find in them a convenient new home. It will be cheaper to dust and clean a carpet than to pay medical bills and fumigation costs for exterminating pests.

    1. Hire a Regular Waste Removal Company

Hire a regular waste removal company to pick up your garbage and help sanitise your environment. If you don’t think it’s worth it to pay for regular waste disposal service to your house, burn home and garden refuse regularly in a pit in your backyard, in small loads to avoid having to call in a waste removal service to take away a mountain of junk.

    1. Clean Your Pool Daily

If you have a pool, clean it daily by yourself (or you could get your teenager do it to earn their allowance!). Once a month at least, you could get a professional to come take a look and fix problems that may arise in connection with it. This is to avoid the expensive draining, resurfacing and refilling you will have to undertake if you leave it to nature to clean.

It is not a bad idea to keep a record of all maintenance work you’ve already done and are scheduled to do. Also keep the details of preferred suppliers and service providers so in your absence, a caretaker could keep your home in a condition you’re satisfied with. This way, no essential maintenance tasks are forgotten, and your home keeps appreciating in value as the years go by, with very minimal cost to you. A clean and attractive home is a magnet for potential buyers and renters, and they will be, most likely, willing to pay whatever price you quote.
