How to plan your four bedroom house

Owning a home is one of everyone’s biggest ambitions. Planning the space in your home should not be an afterthought but something which is done even before one moves into the house. A four bedroom house is large so how do you optimize the space? Here are some quick and easy steps that will enable you plan your house.

Include your family in the planning

Do not plan on your own. You are not the only one occupying the space therefore the need to consider the other members of the family. Ask them for their opinion before you plan where to put what in the house.

What is the relationship between the spaces?

Figuring out the right space or what needs to be near what is known as adjacencies. For example, the dining area should be close to the kitchen. The shelf of books should be in the living room. All that will prevent unnecessary movements from one place to the other. If you have younger children, converting one of the rooms for playing will be a superb idea. The playroom should not be the last room so you can keep your eyes on the children.

How can the space be organized?

Spaces can be organized into linear, grid, axial or central and that means including your family in the planning process. The home is mostly organized into either linear or axial. Organizing a house in a linear order implies the furniture being arranged in one line while axial organization means there are two points with a straight line interconnecting the points or where the furniture is. For example, the couches in the sitting room can be arranged around a centre table about four metres away from the dining area can be found. Make a conscious effort of leaving some space between the dining area and the centre table. The space should also be organized in a way which will allow for easy interaction.

Are there possibilities to remodel the space?

A four bedroom can easily be re-designed to make the rooms smaller by including partitions to make the rooms big enough for a large family size. If the rooms are smaller, the partitions can be broken down to make the rooms larger so instead of four small bedrooms, you can turn the rooms to two large ones depending on your preference.

What are your preferences?

The joy of owning a large home is the fact that you have so many options. You can convert any of the rooms to whatever you wish for. Which do you prefer – open spaces or dark cosy ones? You can easily turn one of the spaces to that cosy room where you can retire at the end of the day. A light filled open space can be created by choosing thin curtains or blinds for the interior. That will allow a lot of sunlight into the room.

What is the trick to planning the four bedroom house?

The trick to planning your four bedroom house is made easier when you are able to determine the amount of space you need, figure out which rooms should be enclosed  or opened and ensuring you include your family in the planning process.
