Meqasa Home and Property Fair, 2022: Major Learnings and Highlights

Meqasa Home and Property Fair

The 5th Edition of the Meqasa Home and Property Fair, organised by Ghana’s number one online real estate marketplace, meqasa.com, was held over the weekend of 4th and 5th June, 2022, with a patronage of over six hundred attendees passing through to view real estate and ancillary products and services from over 40 exhibitors including Goldkey Properties, Vaal Real Estate, Swami India Ghana LTD, Latex Foam, Orca Deco, Vodafone, Electroland Ghana Limited, Samsung, Superlock, Stanbic Bank, Stone Depot among many others.

Spanning two days, the Meqasa Home and Property Fair made the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel the ultimate destination in Accra during the weekend of 4th and 5th June, 2022. Hundreds of Ghanaians, expats and returnees alike, flocked to the Fair grounds to explore the many options on display, interact with major developers, seek expert advice from a real estate investment professional, E-Wells Realty; from renowned law firm, M&O Law Consult; the Rent Control Department and the Lands Commission, all while growing their professional network.

Exhibitors of this year’s Meqasa Home and Property Fair were treated to interviews from the celebrity ace presenter, Naa Ashorkor; and all present had the pleasure of enjoying the comedic antics of the versatile DKB who was MC for the event. Attendees also got to observe live an episode of the TAG series organised by Meqasa’s media partner for the fair, Asaase Radio, on the topic “Housing Quagmire: the TAG Series Route”. The episode spanned a two-hour session addressing challenges affecting the housing sector. On the panel were Mr. Kelvin Nyame, CEO of Meqasa Ltd;  Mr. Isaac Mensah, Head of Business Development at State Housing Company Ltd (SHCL); Mr. Philip Delali Zumanu, General Manager of the National Homeownership Fund (NHF); and Mr. Samuel Amegayibor, Executive Secretary of the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA).

Lamenting the challenge of fast-rising cost of construction material in recent times, the Executive Secretary of GREDA, Mr. Samuel Amegayibor, said, “Houses are not supermarket items which can be churned out several at a time in the factory. It takes time. And yet, as you build, prices of materials continue to increase.”

Mr. Kelvin Nyame made an appeal to the Government to clean up the land tenure system so Developers would feel more secure acquiring land from stools/skins, families and individuals, instead of only from the government as is currently the case. Mr. Nyame said, “The government must find a way to work with chiefs, stool lands, and families. I think a special purpose vehicle can be initiated where all lands are put for all stakeholders involved to foster transparency.

Exhibitors and attendees alike got some education during the meqasa.com-organised seminars on the topics “5 Ways to Turn Your Home into a Money-Making Property” led by Reverend Hanna Atiase, CEO of E-Wells Properties Consult, and “How to Legally Safeguard Your Property According to the New Land Act” with Emmanuel Mate-Kole Esq., Managing Partner at M&O Law Consult.

There was something for everyone at the Meqasa Home and Property Fair: children had fun in the Meqasa Childrens’ Arena with cotton candy, playing with mascots, a bouncy castle and other engaging fun activities while their parents and guardians freely browsed the many properties and products on exhibition.
