Interior Design Tips for the Christmas Holidays

Christmas is approaching so fast. Today is December 2nd and in exactly 23 days, Christmas will be celebrated all over the world. The holidays mean a long period away from work, cooking and eating one’s favorite meals and the opportunity to visit family and friends you haven’t seen in a while. Christmas is also a season for giving out gifts therefore redesigning your home ahead of the holidays will mean giving out items you do not need to the deprived. Do not forget, you need to make room for the Christmas tree.

Clean, Clean and Clean

There is nothing more welcoming than a clean home. As we have already mentioned, a lot of people take advantage of the holidays to visit relatives and friends. You do not want them to come and see a messy living room with cobwebs and dust everywhere. Wash your curtains, the mat on your dining table as well as napkins. Ensure you change the upholstery on the couch. Just clean up your home because you do not know who will be visiting your home during the holidays.

Time to re-paint

If you have kids in your home, certainly your walls will be dirty with marks of dirt, oil , food etc. The wind would have also blown some dirt onto your windows and walls. You can choose very brightly coloured paints such as red, green, blue or yellow or you can mix up the colours to give your room the festive look.

De-Clutter

Is it true that Ghanaians find it hard to do away with old items? If that is not true then you need to dispose off all those items you do not need in your home. You can send the old stuff to charity, your neighbours who do not have such items or your relatives in the village.

To make your room more spacious, use furniture that performs other functions like a coffee table that can be used for storage. The good old room divider which also serves as a cupboard, a shelf and a decorative piece becomes an important piece of furniture for your home  Most modern homes are doing away with this particular piece of furniture but it does serve its purpose.

Re-arrange the furniture

To make your home look different, you can change the position of the furniture set in your room. You can turn the furniture around and allow the back to show or you can arrange them in a circle or a triangle. The television set on the wall can be brought a little bit down. Even the pictures and the paintings on the wall could be changed to give your room a fabulous look. Be creative, think of new ways of arranging the gadgets and appliances in your room.

Make room for the Christmas tree

The living room is the place where family and friends meet and the place for the Christmas Tree. The most appropriate place to put the Christmas tree is close to the window so it is noticeable to passers by. If your Christmas tree is large, overly accessorized and it takes the attention of anyone who enters the room then the advice is to keep other decor in the room to its barest minimum.
