Top Tips to Beautifying your Garden this Christmas
- 18 December, 2020
A beautiful garden is one of the most welcoming things every home can boast of and if you do not have one,…
Finding the time to fit some exercise into your schedule would be so much easier if you could build your own home gym. Setting up a gym at home does not necessarily require a homeowner to break the bank as a simple home gym only requires the necessary space.
Here are creative and easy ways that you can create a gym in your home with just a small amount of money.
Setting up a simple gym requires a space of about 36 square meters. You can transform a spare room, even a small space in the sitting room. Unless you want to keep very sophisticated gym equipment in the space, then a simple space in the home can serve this purpose.
There is a common perception of a gym being a very large space with very sophisticated gym equipment and working out requiring you to lift heavy weights. But staying fit can mean doing simple routines like yoga and stretching on a mat. These regular exercises require a small space, which should be secluded to avoid distractions. Just like setting up an office at home, a gym should be a unique location in the home set aside for exercising.
One important essential for the home gym is either a television with a DVD player, a computer or a laptop to play workout videos. A padded floor or yoga mat is also an important material for the gym. Personalize the space with your favourite paint colour, which can serve as a motivation to exercise daily.
Include a radio or speakers to play music, which will make your exercise routine more lively and interesting. A mirror is an important addition to the gym as they enable you to see your image as you go through a routine.
There is additional equipment that can make a gym exciting but will raise the costs of setting up. Dumbbells can be acquired at a cheap price in a number of malls in Accra. Dumbbells are a cheap and efficient way of building and toning your muscles.
Resistance bands are lightweight and aid in increasing the strength of the individual exercises. Other equipment that can be acquired include medicine balls, a treadmill, step boards, pull-up bars, stability balls, exercise mats and indoor bicycles. A first aid box is also important for home gym so keep this on hand in case an injury occurs. Not all of these items are essential and they will increase the cost of setting up a gym in the home. So just choose those items that are necessary for the exercise routine you have chosen.
Setting up a home gym can be a fun project to undertake. Do you have a gym at home? Is it a simple one, or have you invested more money and gone for more sophisticated equipment? Do you use it often? Share photos of it with us.
