It is widely known that buying a house is one of the biggest investments an individual can make. The location of the house is of course important, but choosing the house with the right style must also be taken into account.
Choosing the perfect house can be determined by considering your family size, personal preferences and the location. There is a wide range of house styles in Ghana; so how can you find the one that suits you best?
Apartments
Apartments are the newest style of houses. Professionals with a fairly small family are usually advised to choose an apartment over other housing types, since they are located in central areas and are usually smaller. Apartments can easily be sold at a higher price when you need to relocate, which gives you more flexibility if you decide to relocate. A number of real estate companies in the city are moving towards the construction of apartments. An apartment, a condominium or a flat is a housing style, which is part of a larger block of units that are shared amongst several households. These could be either high or low-rise buildings. Apartments are mostly found close to the Central Business District of Accra.
Semi-detached houses
A semi-detached house is a house joined to another house on one side. They normally have at least two bedrooms, however some of these buildings can be expanded by the occupants to create more space and are referred to as semi-detached expandable houses. Neighbourhoods with this style of housing include Cantonments, Labone, and Airport.
Detached houses
This is one of the most common building styles in Ghana. These are independent houses – which do not touch any other house. They can also be described as single dwellings that do not share a wall with other residences. This housing style is common in neighbourhoods where people purchase plots of land and develop the properties themselves. Over time, these areas usually develop into semi-detached houses or town houses.
Attached residences or town houses
You can find this type of houses in many residential areas. An attached residence refers to a property which shares walls with other residences on two sides, creating a long stretch of buildings.
