A Plan

As always it helps to plan what you want to achieve with your garden space. Make sure to read and research what flowers or plants you want to grow and decide what appeals to you, as well as what will look good for your house. You also need to make sure that the weather is conducive for your chosen flowers.

Shopping for tools can be a tricky task as soil type; plant type, garden size and other factors come into play. However, for all beginners, common hand tools such as rakes, shovels, shears, etc. usually play a huge role in cultivating your garden space.

Basics of planting and weeding

The first few basics of planting or gardening is all about getting the elements right. These include the water, light, spacing, soil and fertilizer or manure needed to make that particular flower or plant blossom.

Weeding, on the other hand, is unbearable and most weeds kill the flowers and plants you may be trying to grow. To effectively rid your garden weeds, it is advised to do your weeding after irrigation or rain when the earth is soft. Also, you should ensure that the entire root of the weed, as well as any seeds produced, are uprooted and removed entirely from the garden to avoid regeneration.

Flowers (annuals vs. perennials)

Flowers are always a great way to start a garden. They serve many purposes such as decoration, shade and providing lovely fragrances that evoke reminisces of outdoor ambiance. Additionally, some serve as repelling agents for insects while others can be used for medicinal purposes.

Annuals are those flowers that do not last longer than one growing season, leaves seeds and die off but are easier for beginners. Perennials, on the other hand, may go dormant but return during the next growing season. With the perennials, gardeners tend to plant then forget about the plant for a while but when they do bloom, it is worth the wait.

As a beginner, however, it is advisable to begin with annuals as they bloom faster and gradually venture into perennials.

If you’re looking for something therapeutic while you get your hands down and dirty, gardening is for you. If you’re looking for that new hobby that will not only provide leisure and also leave your yard looking beautiful, gardening is for you. Watch out for more tips and tricks on how to make your garden a beauty.
