A lot of towns are noted for one activity or another. For instance, there are towns in Ghana noted for mining activities like Obuasi for gold and Akwatia for diamond. Likewise, there are certain towns and neighbourhoods that are vibrant because of the presence of educational institutions, especially at the tertiary level, that have made them popular.
Below is a guide to five of such communities in Ghana.
This is a location for another private university, Central University College. It is also the permanent location for their Central Business College and the School of Applied Sciences. The campus sits on a 248 acre of land. Miotso is about 58 kilometres away from Accra and very close to Dawhenya. Most homeowners in Accra are moving towards the eastern part of Accra. A lot of developers are turning to the construction of hostel facilities in this community while homeowners are also transforming their properties to residences to accommodate students.
Ayija is the location of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in the Ashanti Region. The community has been popularised by the establishment of the institution, thus many developers are constructing hostel facilities to accommodate the students. Further away from the main campus, a lot of homeowners are handing over their properties to students for accommodation. As the institution expands, more and more businesses are being introduced in Ayija.
The University of Cape Coast, also located near the Cape Coast – Takoradi Road is also a budding community growing bigger and popular because of the vibrant student life. Many hostels, transportation and catering services are expanding around the university making it a popular town in the Central Region.
No matter the size of a town or community, whenever an educational institution is established, the community starts to enlarge because of students’ needs like food, accommodation, transportation etc.
