Easy Ways to Improve your Home: Kitchen

In recent times, the kitchen has been accepted as one of the most important work spaces in every home. A lot of time is spent in the kitchen, which is a good reason for it to be made as inviting as possible, while maximizing its functionality.

How can we transform the kitchen from a drab environment to an extraordinary place where you would want to spend your time? Here are a few ideas on how to achieve this.

Change the worktops

According to Amma Ano-Bempong, General Manager of  Rouge Interiors, one of the best interior designing companies in Ghana, a key way of making the kitchen exciting is by changing the worktops. Maybe what you currently have in your kitchen is outdated or it is a little bit broken.

Depending on your taste, style and preferences, you can choose a work surface made of solid wood, bamboo, granite or a laminated worktop. The style can also vary depending on the space you have available in the kitchen. To make the kitchen more spacious, it is advisable that you properly define the cooking, storage and washing up areas.

Replace the doors

“You can also look at changing the doors of the kitchen.” Ms. Ano-Bempong says. An alternative could be to  replace the existing doors with sliding-doors, if your kitchen still has the traditional “pull” and “push” door-system. Sliding doors give your kitchen a modern look and at the same time, it helps you save space.

The doors of the cabinets can also be substituted to improve the look of your kitchen. Consider something stylish like transparent or glass doors, which will reveal the interior of the storage space.

Paint the kitchen walls

Painting the kitchen walls does not only cover any dirty oily marks, but gives the kitchen a fresher look. You can choose between the conventional colours of white, brown or green or the more contemporary orange, yellow and red. You can even combine the conventional colours with modern accessories, such as the transparent doors.

Re-arrange the space

One of the basic steps of improving every space is to de-clutter. Perhaps there are items in the kitchen which one does not really need, like old crockery, unnecessary cooking equipment or unused pots and pans. You can make the process even easier by listing all items and tools you have not used within the past couple of months and giving them away.

Complement with colourful appliances

“You can have some colourful appliances. They can be red or orange; maybe the toaster can be yellow. Some infusion of colour can give you a nice kitchen without changing so much,” according to Ms. Amma Anno. Again, like painting the kitchen, complementing the kitchen with colourful appliances improves the kitchen’s appearance.

Taking all the steps above will not only make your home look nicer, but will increase functionality, making the cook more efficient while preparing all those sumptuous meals.
