Best Neighbourhoods in Accra: Labone or East Legon?

If you had the chance to choose between East Legon or Labone  in Accra, where would you love to stay? Today, Jumia House Ghana interviews two residents of Labone and East Legon. They will tell us why Labone and East Legon are the best neighbourhoods in Accra.

Labone

Labone is a very great neighbourhood to live in. First, I love the location – it’s only 15 minutes drive from Accra even during peak hours. There are great places to hang out such as Bosphorous, Melting Moments and Twist. Labone is so close to Osu and everybody knows what the latest trends are, especially on the Oxford Street.

There are good schools in the neighbourhood like Morning Star and GIS. I can proudly say, security is a 90% tight.

Labone is a very quiet neighbourhood and that isn’t always a good thing but in general, it’s a lot safer than the average neighbourhood in Accra.

My neighbours? I don’t know them personally but I see them all the time. The thing about my neighbourhood is that it has a lot of workers from the government agencies. Most of them have kids who are married and moved out so it’s either you meet really old people or very young ones. People are never really just walking around, they are either indoors or have gone out of town.

We have all the basic amenities including very good roads,  constant water supply and electricity.

I love Labone, and there is no way I am going to move out of this neighbourhood.

East Legon

What I can say about East Legon is that it has a very good road network which has been tarred. In fact, I can say that 99.9% of the roads have been tarred and this was done in 2011. We have constant flow of water, electricity and all other basic amenities.

Secondly, East Legon is home to a variety of hangouts, such as Peter Pan, Starbites – one of the best hangouts in Ghana. Talk of living room – one of the first movie houses in Ghana where they screen football matches and movies. There are so many boutiques in East Legon.

One of the greatest things about East Legon is that you don’t even have to go to the market because within that perimeter, you can get everything you need. There is one unique American store, where everything you see is from America. There is the proximity to the Accra Mall, which is currently the best mall in Accra.

Another great thing about East Legon is that there are really friendly neighbours. Security is also tight. There is a police station right in East Legon. There are so many police barriers as well.

In terms of schools in East Legon, there are American International School, British International School, Galaxy International, Bawaleshie LA 1, 2 and 3.

Cost of living is a little high at East Legon. I love the neighbourhood but the only problem is that we cannot get very warm meals to buy especially from where I live, so I have to drive about five minutes that is where you can get affordable food to buy.

Comparatively, this neighbourhood is neither quiet nor noisy. It’s quite easy for me to find some kind of balance here.

We leave it up to you; which neighbourhood would you prefer – Labone or East Legon?
