Weija is located in the Ga South Municipal District of the Greater Accra Region, about 25 km drive away from the capital – Accra. It is one of the oldest communities in Accra which has seen a lot of development in recent times. A lot of people are acquiring more properties and developing them into very fine structures in the area. Most of the residents of the Weija are people who have relocated from other parts of the country, causing the population to grow at a very fast rate. Communities close to Weija include Dukonah, Macarthy Hill, Gbawe, Dansoman, Bortianor, Oblogo and Glefe.

Weija is very famous for the dam which has been constructed over the Densu River. The dam is seen as the second largest in the country after the Volta Dam. The Weija Dam was constructed in 1978 to provide water for the people living in Accra and currently, it provides water for about 2.5 million people in both the eastern and western parts of Accra.

Another popular facility in Weija is the Leprosarium which houses over 30 inmates at the moment. The facility is over 20 years and it’s headed by the Reverend Father Campbell. The Weija Clinic which is under the Ghana Health Services  specializes in the treatment of communicable diseases. Advance Body Sculpt, situated at Weija Junction provides services like plastic surgury consultations, liposuction, breast implants, facials etc.

Weija is fast developing into a commercial centre in recent time. A lot of businesses and shops are being put up in the area, especially along the main Weija-Accra road. Covering a large tract of the land, about 24-acres, is the West Hills Mall which is still under construction. The mall when completed will provide electronic, beauty, lifestyle, financial and insurance, pharmaceuticals services to people  in the vicinity and beyond. It will also serve recreational purposes and provide restaurants, pubs, etc.

The Weija Shoprite is a retail shop which is located along the main road close to West Hills Mall. Shoprite is a large shop complex serving people in Weija with wide range of meat products, groceries, household items etc. It is opened from Mondays to Sundays from 10pm to 8am and on Sundays, it opens from 12pm -6pm.

The SilverBird Cinema is one of the newly opened recreational centres in Weija. It has three movie halls which provides 3-D experience. Apart from showing movies, the halls serve as venues for hosting events and conferences.

Specializing in the sale of pizza, chicken wings, salads and other desserts, and serving as one of the favorite hangouts for people living in Weija is Eddy’s pizza which is close to the Silverbird Cinema. There is Starbites Cafe in Weija which serves a wide array of burgers, fries, pizza, pasta, sandwich.

Hazelway International School located at Weija provides a safe learning environment for students whose families have relocated to the country. Rising Sun Montessori is a basic school located close to Weija which focuses on providing its students with both high local and international  standard of education. There is the West End School, a private facility located a few metres from the Weija Dam which provides pupils in the community with quality education from nursery to the Junior High Level.
