Accra Neighbourhood Watch: Tesano

Accra has been home to many of such wonderful neighborhoods in Ghana, providing a sense of security, prestige and shelter needed to start the day on a good note. During the colonial times, the capital city’s suburbs was mostly inhabited by affluent European and Syrian businessmen. Post independence however saw a paradigm shift, with Ghanaian indigenes moving into such areas vacated by their European and Syrian counterparts. One of such neighborhoods to witness this historic event is Tesano.

Interestingly, Tesano is located about a minute’s drive away from the commercial zone of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle as well as being bordered by North Kaneshie, another popular neighborhood in Accra. There are about two approved routes connecting to Tesano via North Kaneshie but only one connects from the Highway. For house-hunters with cars, Tesano is an ideal setting for a home. Due to the fact that the neighborhood was created decades ago, it has a well-constructed road network which has been mostly coal-tarred, thus prolonging the lifespan of your vehicles.

Ghana has developed a growing taste for European-style homes and Tesano is no different. Interspersed with both colonial and modern homes, Tesano is a suburb that caters to the different European tastes of house-hunters. With a growing population and due to its proximity, a number of houses have been turned into offices, with apartments also being constructed to cater for expats mainly.

The Ghana Police Force has done a marvelous job of ensuring the safety of Tesano residents. With a police station situated along the highway and a number of barrier posts being mounted at night, house hunters can be rest assured of their security. It is more instructive to note that the Police Academy is also situated along the highway of Tesano, thus, instilling more fear into the hearts of dare-devils.

Entertainment is never lost at Tesano. The neighborhood has been treating inhabitants from far and near to exquisite moments of leisure spanning decades. One such leisure spot is the Tesano Sports Club. This venue was once the buzz of Accra, mainly to  hosting affluent families. Even though the emergence of Osu has seen other hangouts supercede it, it still is a wonderful spot to cool off and socialize.

The sports center has a 13-foot swimming pool for those who love to get soaked and exercise. For those who do not know how to swim, instructors are on hand to lend you a helping hand, albeit at a fee.

A tennis court is also available for those die-hard Federer-Serena wannabes. Tennis is another great sport that not only exercises the body but the mind as well. Impressively, instructors are available to coach first-timers as well, thus ensuring no one is left out of the fun. The sports center also has a food and snack bar to fill those hungry stomachs.

Papaye, one of Ghana’s leading fast food restaurant chains is also located at Tesano. The restaurant is strategically located along the highway, about 20 meters away from the entrance to Tesano.

Every family strategically plans towards accommodation, taking into consideration the education of their wards. Schools like Mizpah and God’s Grace International are there to ensure that kids get the best education there is in Ghana. Interestingly, the Ghana Technology University College is also situated at Tesano and is a great institution for those looking to attain a bachelors degree in a technology related program.

Tesano is one of those neighborhoods that is sure to get you attached and linger in your memory even if you decide to move. So, would you want live at Tesano?
