Mallam is a residential area located along the Accra – Cape Coast road. It is surrounded by McCarthy Hill, Gbawe, Odorkor, Awoshie and Panbros Lagoon. The Panbros lagoon is located in the western part of Accra and is noted for salt mining and the production of salt on a large scale.

The N1 Highway, a 14 kilometer stretch of road, connects Mallam to the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange. The N1 was opened by the late President John Evans Atta Mills in 2012. This has made the area very accessible for people living in the neighbourhood.

Some of the wares traded are groceries, beef, crabs and tilapia, being the most popular among traders.
