The Airport Residential Area as the name suggests is located just around Accra’s International Airport and is the first neighbourhood one notices coming right out of the Kotoka International Airport. This area is located just about 10km northeast of the city centre and about five minutes drive west of the Kotoka International Airport. It goes without saying that due to the proximity of this area to the airport; it is relatively expensive to live in.

Due to its proximity to the Airport, Airport Residential Area’s real estate market, whether it be rental or for purchase is relatively expensive. The area can be debatably divided into two main parts, the area almost immediately around the airport and the other across from the airport.

The part closest to Liberation Road can be described somewhat as the downtown of Airport Residential, otherwise known as “Airport City”.  With high-rise buildings alongside the road , spanking new Marina Shopping Mall with restaurants, such as Yasmina, Lebanese cuisine and the new Soho, sushi bar, the area also has some banks and hotels, such as the Holiday Inn, Marriott Hotel, Ibis Styles Hotel, Stanbic Bank, Lester Square, Icon House, Airport One Square and other upcoming ones under construction.

Other recreational locations such as Accra’s only Polo Court can be found in this area, which comes with exclusive restaurants such as the Il Cavaliere Passo Italian restaurant and the Polo Heights apartments for accommodation. Bike enthusiasts will have a blast at the Harley Davidson Accra shop. This part of Airport Residential also has access to a recently constructed shorter route to the Spintex Road, in an attempt to help reduce traffic from the Tetteh Quashie Roundabout.

The second part of the Airport Residential situated west and across from the airport has the most common residential facilities such as houses and apartments for rent and sale. This side of the Airport Residential has more hotels and accommodation such as the Iris Boutique Apartments, Airport West Hotel, Villa Monticello Boutique Hotel, Best Western Hotel and African Reagent Hotel. Corporations and embassies such as the Chinese Embassy, the National Service Secretariat Office, WAEC Heights exam hall and Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs can be found here as well.

Renowned schools can be found in this neighbourhood such as the Association International School, and Alliance Francaise d’Accra French School, not to mention top of the line hospitals and clinics including the Nyaho Medical Centre and Airport Women’s Hospital.

The shopping and recreational centres on this side of the neighbourhood include the Koala Shopping Centre, one of Accra’s exclusive supermarkets with a range of international products and the recently opened Italian food centre Ci Gusta which currently serves great gelatos, crepes, waffles and customized frozen yoghurts.  Not to forget this area also boasts of an interesting variety of restaurants such as the Josie’s Cuppa Cappuccino Café and La Chaumiere French Restaurant and Santoku Japanese Bar and Restaurant. For art lovers, Antique Lemonade organizes a lot of avant-garde exhibitions and art events you can check out.

The Airport Residential Area has access to most of Accra’s major roads which link to the central part of Accra on one side and the Tetteh-Quarshie interchange on the other.

This neighbourhood can be described as sparsely populated, well-planned, secure, clean and ideal location for exclusive living or business.
