6 Tips for a Stress-Free Move

Relocating is a stressful process for most people, but it can be more traumatic if you live alone. However to ease your burden, Jumia House Ghana has put together these six tips to give you a stress-free move:

  1. Plan: Planning makes things easier.  What are your intentions? Do you intend renting your own place or you intend buying a house? Would you need to acquire a mortgage to purchase that property? Make a checklist of every enquiry that you need to make, things you need to buy among others tasks. Check them out as you accomplish them. This will give you a sense of progress in a highly distractive period.
  2. Good organisation:  Get your stuff organised by packing them into boxes and labeling them. This will be of use when you need to identify things that are delicate on the day you move out.  Upon arrival in your new house, it will also help you to identify the content in each box. Decide in advance what to you are going to use each room for in advance. That will make unpacking easier.
  3. Give away some old stuff: One of the mistakes people make is moving old items they do not need or have not used in a long while to their new homes. If there are clothes that you have not used for over a year, there is a high probability that you do not need them. Donate them to people and at the end of the day, you will have less stuff to move while you have made other people happy. It is a win-win.
  4. A good mover: It is okay to proof that you are strong, but reach out to family or friends when you have to. In Ghana, usually there are trucks that you can rent to transport your stuff but there are companies who are specialised in transporting stuff to your new home or space like Global Packing Services. They are professionally trained and will handle your stuff with care. However, little acts such as words of appreciation or lunch for the movers will encourage the movers to go out of their way to ensure that your stuff is moved with care.
  5. Unpack quickly: Unpack right away when you get to your new home. This will help you escape the trap of procrastination and living from boxes for weeks.
  6. Improve security: Do security checks when you get to your new home and fix things such as loose locks. Also, it is advisable to change door locks. Electricians, plumbers, gardeners of previous homeowners may have duplicate keys to the house.
