Imagine losing your valuables and sometimes your loved ones because you failed to secure your home. Most times, we hear in the news that people are robbed in their homes due to many factors. One factor that is common is negligence and failure of people to secure their homes.
This article considers some five effective ways to protect/secure your home in Ghana.
Do not assist a thief in breaking in via the front door. Check all of your outside doors to ensure that the door frames are strong, the hinges are secure, and that no one can reach through the security checking hole to unlock the door.
Change the door locks if you are moving into a house that was previously occupied by someone else. You won’t have to worry about outsiders having a key to your property, and you’ll be able to ensure that your locks are the best ones available.
If your window latches aren’t to your liking, add protection with aftermarket window locks or key-operated levers. You don’t have to stop there, though. We offer a few more suggestions for making your windows burglar-proof:
Whether it’s a basic DIY (Do it yourself) system or one with expert management and home automation technologies, your new house should have some sort of security system. There are several home security systems available now for every budget and level of protection.
Installing CCTV Cameras will help scare away intruders when you are not home. These technologies inform thieves that the house is secure and this will prevent them from or at least make them think twice about approaching your house.
Trees provide beauty to your home, but they can provide a hiding spot for criminals. Trees and plants near your home that may be utilised for cover should be pruned. Instead, consider planting thorny trees which will deter climbers or use smaller blooms and plants. Remove any trees that are close to windows or strengthen those windows with extra security.
Make sure the following in your home:
Employ a guard from a security agency if you can. This guard serves as a protector of your home while you are away from home or asleep. Outsourcing guards from dedicated agencies is the surest way of having maximum trusted security service rather than employing someone you think can do the work, as these individuals sometimes tip off thieves to rob homes.
Even though we have heard instances where guards affiliated with security companies also tip off thieves to rob homes, it is safer to outsource your security guard from a licensed agency. With this in place, in the occurrence of any robbery, the liability can be borne by the agency.
Contemporary times require a lot from families and individuals alike to stay afloat economically. This leads to some very complicated and busy schedules which make it nigh impossible to remain at home for extended periods. This almost guaranteed absence from home makes the home more susceptible to unwanted attention from thieves, burglars and other such criminals. It is, therefore, wiser to secure your home to either prevent or make it more expensive for a robber than waiting to be a victim before securing the home or property.
