Going green is simpler than you’ve ever imagined. Being eco-friendly is a matter of taking some drastic decisions on the amount of energy you use in your home. Below are some of the easiest tips to take in order to keep your home as eco-friendly as possible:

1.       Replace your household appliances with energy efficient ones. Use appliances with the Energy Star Labels which verify the product is a low consumer of water and energy. A number of public agencies like the Energy Commission of Ghana and Hisense allow consumers to replace their current appliances like fridges with energy efficient ones.

2.       Using energy efficient product to cut down electricity cost and the amount of utility bills you pay to save energy.

3.       Toilets use about 26 percent of water in your home. To stop wasting water, you can pour water into the toilet directly into the bowl or regulate the amount of water that flushes the toilet to prevent waste.

4.       Another way of cutting down on energy usage is by using solar.  Although Installing solar panels may be pricey using it overtime allows you to cut down on the cost, making it more affordable and energy-efficient.

5.       Statistics also show that 12 percent of electricity goes into lighting but using LED ensures you save about 25 percent of that energy or even more.

6.       Leaving gaps under window and door sills especially if the room is air-conditioned will cause warm air to circulate in the room. This is will increase the amount of energy used in cooling the rooms.

7.       Ceiling fans have become a common necessity in most homes. They circulate air to make the room cooler. Turn them off when they are not in use.

8.       Painting your room always gives it that new look you have always wanted. Avoid paints which are high in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). These compounds are toxic.

9.       Avoid using papers in instances where you can use electronic devices. Patronising paper increases the demand for it, leading to the cutting down of more trees. Check your bills online instead of printing them on papers.

10.    Turn off taps when they are not in use to save waste.
